Case Studies - Alzheimer's Care

Mrs. L

Mrs. L had lived in her home of 30 years when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. Her daughter became alarmed when Mom started wandering and wearing inappropriate dress for the weather. She realized it was unsafe for Mrs. L to continue living at home without assistance. Yet, she agonized because placement in a facility would remove Mrs. L from all of the memories she was still able to cherish. She was determined to find a way to allow Mom to live at home for as long as possible.

Both of Mrs. L's daughters had their own families and jobs. Also, because of Alzheimer's Mrs. L. behavior could be very unpredictable, requiring caregivers who understood the disease and were trained in Alzheimer care. Living at Home SeniorCare was called in to supplement the care family members were able to provide during their "off work" hours. As a result, Mrs. L was able to continue living at home for an additional 18 months.

Not only was Mrs. L able to enjoy a higher quality of life by staying in her own home, but it is also estimated that the family saved $28,800 compared to the cost of a nursing home admission.

Mr. and Mrs. D

Mr. and Mrs. D, an elderly couple, lived by themselves. Their grown children were retired and living in Florida. Mr. D. had been diagnosed with Alzheimer Disease while Mrs. D had severe arthritis and was unable to provide the care needed by her husband of 50 years.

Mrs. D. was very resistant to having caregivers in the home, but family members convinced her that the only alternative would be to place Mr. D. in a facility.

Reluctantly, Mrs. D agreed to allow caregivers in the home to assist with Mr. D's care. To help control costs, a split schedule was implemented. Living at Home Senior Care provided care seven days a week from 8:00 am to 11:00 am and again later in the day from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Living at Home SeniorCare calls this type of service "Rise and Shine, Dinner and a Tuck-In."

Living at Home SeniorCare is locally owned and operated.

Just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you not only for your excellence in caring for my Mom, but also for the kindness that was shown to not only my mother, but to both my brother and myself. Thank you for making us feel safe when you were there with Mom. Thank you for keeping us aware of any changes or things of importance that we needed to address.
